Here is some information on installing CrossOver (a tool that allows Windows applications to run on a Mac) and installing and testing gCADPlus.
Remember, a free version of most Windows emulators is available to trial, so install one first, then install gCADPlus and run it in demo mode before purchasing gCADPlus. Before spending money, we want you to be completely comfortable with gCADPlus on your Mac.
1. Installing Crossover and install gCADPlus
Use your browser to search for and download and install the demo version of CrossOver on your Mac.
Here is the link to the CrossOver home page ready to download a trial version of CrossOver.
Once installed and activated, the CrossOver icon appears on the strip at the bottom of the screen. Your icon will look different from the one below, as CrossOver 2022 is now version 21 and sports a different logo.
2. Install gCADPlus – manual installation
How do you manually install the metric version of gCADPlus on a Mac that’s running Crossover? This movie shows how to download and store the gCADPlus setup file in the Mac Finder downloads folder. We then start CrossOver, set up a new CrossOver bottle, and Install the metric version of gCADPlus into a Windows 7 bottle on a Mac running Crossover. Tip: Our advice is to perform these steps without relying on the script that CrossOver provides when you try to install by typing gCAD.. and accepting the script written by CrossOver.
Automated installation of gCADPlus using a script developed by the support folks at CrossOver
This movie shows how to install the gCADPlus under CrossOver using a script. Typing a few characters of the gCADPlus application name allows us to choose between installing the Metric or Imperial version. The install script does the rest. We then start gCADPlus in the demo mode and run one of the supplied template files to set up a new test drawing. Run gCADPlus in demoe mode. This mode is fully functional. The limitation is that you cannot save your work. To remove that limitation, purchase a copy and register gCADPlus on the Help drop-down menu.
This movie first shows how to install the Imperial (USA) version of gCADPlus into the CrossOver environment. A script file developed by the support staff at CrossOver is used. In the latter part of the movie, we show how to install the metric version of gCADPlus into a Windows 10 bottle. In both cases, we use the trial (demo) version of gCADPlus to get a feel for how the software works in our Mac environment.
Tip: These install scripts will install a relatively old version of gCADPlus that’s fine for testing purposes, but it is best to have the latest version of gCADPlus. We recommend removing the automated script-based installation and installing gCADPlus manually if you want to test gCADPlus further.

About the Crossover trial
Crossover offers a free, fully functional 14-day trial of CrossOver Mac. The trial takes about one minute to download, and your trial period begins as soon as you launch CrossOver the first time.
When your free trial ends, CrossOver will stop working, but any Windows programs like gCADPlus you’ve installed or run during the trial are still there. Once you purchase a CrossOver license, you can remove the trial timer and continue using Windows software on your Mac. If you decide to buy gCADPlus, there is no need to reinstall it; enter your chosen user name and activation code. These will be contained in an email once you have purchased gCADPlus.
2. Manual installation of gCADPlus (assuming CrossOver is installed)
Here is the link to a web page to download a copy of the gCADPlus setup file. Choose either zip to 7zip version of gCADPlus. The downloaded setup file will usually be stored in the Mac downloads folder. You can check its location using the Finder tool on the Mac. Note the location; you will need to navigate to that location later.
Tip: Make sure that you select the correct version of gCADPlus. We have a version for use in the USA where the base measuring unit is Imperial decimal feet and a metric version where the base unit is mm.
