Here is a list of equipment to take when conducting a site survey.
- Your mobile phone.
- Pencil and eraser
- Clipboard with several sheets of A4 paper. Printed with a 10mm grid if possible.
- Scale ruler
- Large cloth measuring tape (marked in decimal feet – take care in the USA where tapes sometimes have two sides – decimal feet and feet and inches)
- If you do not have an assistant, a screwdriver is needed to anchor the tape.
- A smaller pocket tape is used to measure window/door width. The same tape can measure trunk circumference at chest height (calculate diameter), canopy drip line, etc.
- Electronic laser distance measure.
- Compass (although a phone app will do it).
