The ability of CAD software like gCADPlus to ‘snap’ the cursor to geometric points on parts of entities such as endpoints of lines, centre points of circles, tangent to arcs, etc, enables the creation of very accurate designs.
These tools are primarily used in the middle of a gCADPlus command. For example, you might start the break command by selecting an entity such as a circle, select the first break point accurately by, say, an intersection and perhaps a second break point using a different snap.
The various snap tools are gathered together on an entity snap toolbar, which is found at the right of the screen in the drawing editor.
Tip the terms esnap and osnap are used interchangeably.
We discuss the operation of entity snaps (osnaps) while working with a design for the front entrance to a house. Controlling snap operations using the right mouse button and using one-step overrides is demonstrated. The ability of gCADPlus to control line spacing and justification of text in leaders is also illustrated. Finally, the ability of gCADPlus to fine-tune a dimension style is also shown.
Osnaps are used in landscape CAD drawings to ensure that designs are created with precision. When drawing entities such as lines, the start point of the line can be located at control points (grips) on other entities. Osnaps can be single or set in the gCADplus environment such that multiple osnaps are in play while drafting. Here we create a complex polyline to define an area to show some flagstone paving.
